I grew up in the North West of Ireland, surrounded by the familiar mix of rural homes, traditional builds and the kinds of properties that carry decades of stories within their walls.
Buying a home is rarely just a transaction here — it’s a milestone, a commitment, and often a dream for families trying to build a secure future. That understanding is what guides my work every single day.
My path into surveying wasn’t straightforward. I began my career in estate agency and lettings, gaining first-hand insight into the challenges buyers and sellers face. Later, I trained as a residential property surveyor in the UK, where I developed a deep appreciation for clear reporting, structured methodology and client-focused service.
The part I always enjoyed most was helping people feel grounded, supported and empowered at moments when decisions felt overwhelming.
When my wife and I decided to return home to raise our daughters in Sligo, I knew I wanted to build a surveying practice that genuinely put people first — a service built on independence, clarity and plain-English advice.
McGrath & Co Surveyors was created with that purpose: to help buyers and sellers make confident decisions with a steady, trustworthy expert by their side.
Today, I specialise in residential property surveys across Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, Donegal and Longford.
